Educational Assistance Program

Description and Goals:

The Educational Assistance Program was designed for rural areas with the goal of providing assistance to school aged children and young adults of low income families, orphans, and children whose families have lost financial means of support as a result of natural calamities.

Students in this program are identified with the help of local school principals and teachers, the village Islamic councils and other authorities in the area. After a thorough background check by CCDC, children and youngsters whose educational needs are determined to be unfulfilled are then admitted into the program.

Studies have shown that a large number of students, especially girls, in deprived rural areas of Iran are unable to continue their education after finishing grade school in their local villages and therefore fall into this category. There are many reasons for this lack of opportunity for these students, some of which are: poverty, conservative cultural values, shortage of middle and high schools in these areas, far distances between villages and lack of functional transportation between them.

As children finish grades levels in their local village school, they are forced to travel to the nearest neighboring village with higher grade levels.  In a number of rural areas dormitories have been set up in central villages where these students (both boys as well as girls) from the surrounding rural area can stay during the school year. Some of the villagers who can afford sending their children to school in neighboring villages have opted to fund set up of dormitories for boys. But families with larger number of children cannot afford sending all their kids to schools outside their own village and they usually choose to keep their daughters at home, spending what they can to send only their sons to dorm facilities to finish their schooling. CCDC has learned that if dormitories for girls are set up in these villages, they too will be able to benefit from the blessings of education, to which they are entitled. As such CCDC believes that its Educational Assistance Program is of vital importance in these villages.

Method of Operation

A- Sponsors of Educational Assistance Program

  • Individuals and corporate entities can sponsor one or more students through an annual donation of 1,000,000IRRials per student.
  • Each student’s expenses are covered by a sponsor for a period of three years of middle school (6th through 8th grades).
  • If a student chooses to continue his/her education into high school or a vocational school, the sponsor will be required to continue coverage of the student’s expenses.
  • Sponsors can follow the progress of student(s) under their support through regular contacts with CCDC.
  • In cases where CCDC determines that sponsored students need additional assistance, they may reach out to the sponsors for further help.
  • Sponsors may choose to provide additional financial support for their charge(s) to cover their books and school supplies, clothing and workshop tools as these expenses are not included in the sponsors’ original pledged support.
  • There is no limit to the amount of donations for these expenses.

B- Execution of the Program and Responsibilities

  • CCDC is solely responsible for execution of this program.
  • CCDC will be in regular contact with local authorities and will continuously cooperate with them to directly oversee the progress of the program and its sponsored students. CCDC will provide sponsors with regular progress reports and will welcome their assistance and cooperation in resolving any concerns.
  • CCDC is responsible for forecasting a reasonable budget for each student in order to prevent any interruptions in the students’ education. This budget may comprise of various sources of donations to CCDC.
  • At the beginning of specific periods, CCDC will open new student accounts on its books. Sponsors may remit their pledged funds into CCDC’s bank account (having specified that the funds are targeted for the Educational Assistance Program) and provide CCDC with a copy of their deposit slip.
  • In order to make the program more efficient and keep sponsors abreast of developments, CCDC will organize meetings with them and will submit written reports of their inspection trips to the village schools and dormitories.
